Youth Campaigning Consultation

On 30 and 31 January 2008, representatives of a variety of constituencies, including youth, HIV and AIDS, women, labour, parliamentarians and faith, gathered in Amsterdam for a Youth Campaigning Consultation. The consultation was organised by the World AIDS Campaign, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The consultation provided participants with a unique opportunity to come together to identify key campaigning and mobilisation opportunities, as well as to build partnerships. Out of the 32 participants, 75% were below the age of 29, and all are involved in youth-led or youth-serving organisations. Participating organisations included, in alphabetical order:

Letter to Dr. Margaret Chan

One of the discussions at the consultation was regarding the WHO's Guidance on Provider-initiated HIV testing and counselling in Health Facilities. From the discussions, youth participants prepared implementation recommendations pertaining to youth. These recommendations were sent to WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan on 6th of March.
