BRAZIL

Pará State
The Pará NGO/AIDS Forum is working and developing activities since November 20th. They are using the World AIDS Day to ask the public power for more transparence in its actions and more support for people living with AIDS.

With the theme “All the solidarity, with no discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS”, the civil society will remember those people who succumbed to the war against HIV and that we miss. On November 30th, it will be realized movies showing, workshop on prevention with teenagers and the VI SEMINAR RIGHTS, PUBLIC HEALTH AND AIDS. On December 1st, there will be Prevention on IST/AIDS activities in the cities of Belém and Ananindeua. On December 3rd, there will be exposed NGO/AIDS works, in Belém. Paraíba State

On the World AIDS Day, the Paraíba NGO/AIDS Forum ask people to pay attention on the public powers irresponsibility with the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the AIDS movement claiming. The Forum will going to realize on the December 1st a political act at João Pessoa, the major city of Paraíba, and a Seminar on Public Policies on AIDS, on December 5 and 6, in which will be discussed the themes of international political situation and the Brazilian scene about AIDS.

On December 1st it will be launched in Paraíba the campaign “Hairdressers of the World against AIDS”, an initiative of the Lóreal Professional Products Division in partnership with UNESCO with the objective to training hairdressers to multiply the information about AIDS.

Piauí State

In Teresina, major city of Piauí, the main theme that will be dealing on December 1st and 2nd is the civil society participation on the monitoring of health public policies. During two days, solicitors and civil society are discussing about the social control on the Health Unique System (SUS), in a seminar organized by the NGO/AIDS Forum and the RNP+ - Piauí Group.
The National Network of People Living With AIDS in Piauí, in partnership with the Posithives Women Citizens, choosed as a theme for the December 1st, the slogan “Because life is stronger than AIDS” and with this sentence they hope to sensibilize the community about the meaning of having people living with AIDS integrated on the local public policies definition process.

Pernambuco State
Água Preta

Women and young people are also organizing themselves to take their messages forward on the World AIDS Day. The Água Preta Women Association - AMAP – is going to realizing on December 1st, workshop about IST-HIV/AIDS, with the Kabum! Agua Youth Impact Group – KGIJAP.AMAP is also going to do an action with folder distribution and information on sexual education, with condoms distribution and informative folders on AIDS.

RECIFE
In Recife, major city of Pernambuco, the civil society is going to realize protests on the Public Ministry and events during all the week to discuss and pressure the health solicitors to implement better HIV/AIDS prevention policies and support for people living with AIDS. There will be workshops and discussion tables, videos showing and theatre groups insertions, and the activities will be finished with a political act in which a big red ribbon is going to be put on the major square of the city.

Rio Grande do Norte State

On December 1st, the Zuzu Angel Association, from Natal – Rio Grande do Norte, in partnership with eighteen hip hop groups, is going to launch the Outskirts Black Youth Prevention Campaign. Besides, there will be a Public Audience at the Chamber of Deputies of the state of Pará; Workshops with the Four Elements; Dance, graffiti, rhymes and disco; and awards for the best rhyme text, the best base for music, the best graffiti and the best performance. All the categories tackle the themes of IST and HIV/AIDS prevention and the Black Youth.

Rio de Janeiro State
BRAZILIAN GROUPS : FIGHTING AGAINST INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FOR MEDICINES

On this December 1st, the Intellectual Property Work Group (GTPI) of the Brazilian Network for the People Integration (REBRIP), coordinated by the Interdisciplinary Brazilian Association on AIDS (ABIA), contests the Abbot and Gilead ask for HIV/AIDS medicines patents. The strategy aiming to avoid the concession of a privilege that gives monopoly and has a negative impact on the medicine access for Brazilian patients. The GTPI is going to talk about the theme in a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, in which is going to participate also the Representative of Medicines Sans Frontieres for the Campaing for Medicine Access, Michel Lotrowska, and the consultant Eloan Pinheiro, talking about the ARV prices.

Ceará
In Ceará the organized civil society is going to denounce, during a seminar, “The AIDS Assistance Issue in Ceará”, aiming to sensibilize the different social segments for the care with prevention and assistance for people living with AIDS. Seeking to involve politicians and decision makers in this process, the NGO is going to launch on December 1st the Parliamentary Front on the Fight against AIDS in Ceará, at the Legislative Assembly, giving to the Elected Governor of Ceará the purposes of the NGO/AIDS Forum, and launching the book AIDS and Activism in Northeast.

Bahia State

The Bahia NGO/AIDS Forum organized for the December 1st, the Solidarity Stand, space for publicize and inform the community about the risks of catch ISTs and AIDS, with condoms distribution and folders with adequate orientation, AIDS and Social Control events T-Shirt exposition, videos showing, talking, dialogues and poem recital.

PANAMÁ

- “Keep the promise… united against AIDS” .
In Panamá, the programme for the World AIDS Day organized by the Strategic Alliance for Promotion and Public Defense on HIV/AIDS in Panamá and the National Program on IST/HIV/AIDS has the theme “Keep the promise… united against AIDS”. On December 30th , it will be realized the IST/HIV/AIDS Prevention and Health Promotion Fair, and on December 1st there will be Celebrating a Mass at the Don Bosco Church, from where it will star a walk to the Legislative Assembly , followed by a Red Ribbons Sowing at the Gandhi Park, in solidarity with people living with HIV/AIDS and for the deceased AIDS persons. At midday visit to hospitals is going to be done and a Human chain at the public institutions.

ARGENTINA

– “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise”
In Buenos Aires, the Pastoral Ecuménica VIH-SIDA together with other NGOs will make an awareness action in front of the Legislative Palace. Folders are going to be distributed with the slogan “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise”. The Legislative Palace is going to be turned around with a red ribbon and stands will be placed on the streets to dialogue with people passing there. The Pastoral is going to distribute a folder about prevention and churches, putting the theme in a larger and integral perspective. In the afternoon, there will be a liturgical celebration at the Downtown Batiste Church.

COLOMBIA

The JUNIO UNICIDAD Association, from the city of Cali, in Colombia, has been developing the HIV & Dignity Cine Series, to show to the community innovative and questioning points of view, talking about the successful and daily fight of men and women for maintaining her quality of life. On December 1st and 2nd, a thematic movies showing is going o happen in the Univalle Cinemateca.

PERU

– Actions to protect children

One of the greatest NGO/AIDS of Peru, Via Libre, decided that for the December 1st it would have as one of its major themes the discussion about the impact of AIDS, in front of the invisibility and impunity of the children and teenagers commercial sexual exploitation. Via Libre is going to realize a seminar focused on the health, social sciences and journalism professionals and general population.

In Peru, on 2006, it was notified 18.059 cases of AIDS and 24.449 with HIV. Besides, there is about 70 thousand people that unknown their serology for the HIV.

Chile

ASOSIDA and VIVO POSITIVO organize activities for the date that marks 25 years since the first case of HIV in 1981. For this year, it will be realized a citizen activity with informative nature in the Constitución Square at midday, with the participation of several associations that work on the HIV prevention, one of them is SIDACCION, and a letter is going to be give to the President.

COSTA RICA

– We need to talk more about AIDS

Since 1983, 2.500 AIDS cases have been officially notified and more than 500 people died because of the virus. The World AIDS Day is going to be an opportunity to give a great warning for the government authorities and health organizations to coordinating its efforts, in order to inform the population about the risks of HIV infection, seeking to control the epidemic.

Because of this, the Social Security department, the Health Ministry and local organizations are going to realize activities in schools and public spaces, seeking to improve the information about the virus.
